Course Prerequisites
To be eligible for entry into our program the applicant must be:
18 years of age prior to course completion
Have a High School Diploma or GED
Obtain and maintain an American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR card or its Equivalent
Must be able to read at a minimum 10th grade level. Students will be required to take two reading comprehension assessment exams to determine the students reading level and the need for possible remediation. These tests are located inside of the course and will be taken prior to beginning work on the course material.
Within 30 days of beginning your Hospital or EMS rotations you will be required to pass a Urine Drug Analysis and have current immunizations as required by State Rule. These may be viewed in the STUDENT HANDBOOK (click here to view).
A criminal background check will be required. These requirements may vary slightly depending on the program location in which you choose to complete your Clinical and Field Rotations. When you enroll in your Clinical Rotations, the Prerequisites for that location will be given to you.
In addition before you will be allowed to take the National Registry Exam or become certified by the State of Texas, you will be required to pass a Criminal History Background Check. To view NREMT’s Policy click here. To view the State of Texas’s Policy click here.
